In the Kitchen with Jess, Co-Founder of Mother Made

Who are you, and what do you do?

I’m Jess, co-founder of Mother Made and Model living in the UK.

How is it running a business on the go?

Exciting, exhausting, rewarding. Everyday I feel these three emotions and I’m so grateful for it.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned from running your own business?

It’s fine to try to do it all at the inception of your business, but then it’s important to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses and hire accordingly. There are some incredibly talented people out there and I love working alongside them.

What’s your go-to mushroom and why?

I struggle sleeping, Reishi has been my saviour in this department and I never go anywhere without it.

What’s your food philosophy?

Nutrition is so important to all aspects of your health and is widely overlooked. You can heal yourself with nature, that includes the food that grows there and mushrooms of course.

Also be food positive instead of food negative. Instead of saying I need to cut out sugar, I say to myself, this week I’m going to have loads of vegetables to up my fibre intake and help my gut.

What does a day on your plate look like?

7am – Coffee, I’m not really a breakfast person but occasionally I’ll have a croissant or scrambled eggs with avocado.

Snack – My Daily Shroom Shake. It’s packed full of protein, antioxidants and anti inflammatories for overall health, skin and gut.

2pm – Salmon/chicken and veggies or a chicken wrap if I dont have time to sit down… which is most days at the moment.

7pm – Steak and broccoli or some variation of meat and veggies. I cook for my partner and he likes it clean and simple. All the veggie dishes from the assortment are to die for! And they make you look like your Nigella Lawson, which seriously impresses the bf and is the ultimate life hack.

9pm – PM and hot water or sometimes hot cocoa.

What’s always in your pantry or fridge?

An array of beverages and broccoli – I eat at least 1 broccoli a day

What’s your guilty pleasure meal or snack?

Crisps/chips – they make me happy in every flavour.

Most hated food?

Every fast food other than KFC – I find it all so gross and feel nauseous immediately, probably as I’m usually on a long road trip when I surrender to the drive through. I still feel semi nauseous from KFC but there is something about ordering a ‘bucket’ of chicken that just makes me smile.
